Canada Express Entry is a new electronic management application system for immigration to Canada. It has launched
on 1st Jan-2015 it facilitates the selection and processing of Canada’s economic immigration programs: the
Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, the Canadian Experience Class,
and a portion of the Provincial Nomination Programs. Applicants make an ‘expression of interest’ in
immigrating to Canada and, if they are eligible for at least one of the aforementioned programs, they then
enter the Express Entry pool. The federal government and provincial governments, as well as Canadian
employers, are then able to select candidates from this pool who will then receive an ‘invitation to apply’ for
immigration to Canada under one of the programs. Express Entry moves Canada from a first come, first
served (or supply‐driven) system to an invitation to apply (or demand‐driven) system. Express Entry aims to
fast track the processing of skilled immigrants deemed most likely to succeed in Canada.
Why is it called Express Entry?
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) aims to process applications within six months from the date of
submission, hence the name Express Entry. Note that this does not mean six months from the date a
candidate made an expression of interest in immigrating to Canada, but rather six months from the date he or
she submits a complete application for permanent residence after an invitation to apply has been issued.
The Federal Skilled Worker Program
(FSW) : Is a golden opportunity for foreign skilled/trained migrants to attain PR visa in Canada. The Federal
Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) selects immigrants based on their abilities and skills.
Who can apply this Visa?
➢ Work Experience: Who have worked full time for at least one year in the applying occupation within
the past 10 years in the list of O, A & B occupations list.
➢ Age: Candidates can be awarded up to 12 points based on their age at the time of applying.
➢ Arranged Employment: Have a job offer already arranged in the country, can be awarded up to 10
points.
➢ Language(IELTS): Meet the minimum English requirement of Canadian language Benchmark (CLB – 7)
➢ French: Can claim additional points by: French Exam Test.

education Credential Assessment (ECA) by an agency approved by Canada Immigration and
citizenship to provide evidence to Canadian qualification.
➢ Adaptability: Candidates can be awarded up to 10 points for a number of factors that show that
they are adaptable to moving to Canada.
Special Note: Minimum eligibility to get eligible for express entry program is 67 out of 100, based on the
scores your application will turn in to CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System)
About the comprehensive ranking system:
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) ranks eligible candidates for immigration to Canada through
Express Entry under the following components:
• Core human capital factors;
• Accompanying spouse or common‐law factors;
• Skill transferability factors; and
• Factors relating to a provincial nomination or a qualifying job offer of arranged employment.
There are a total of 1,200 points available under the Comprehensive Ranking System. For candidates without
an accompanying spouse or common‐law partner, there are:
A maximum of 500 points available for core human capital factors (i.e. Age, level of education, English
language proficiency);
A maximum of 100 points available for skill transferability factors (Education+ IELTS score min, Foreign
work experience + IELTS score min, Canada work experience +education, Canada –foreign work experience);
and
600 points available for either a provincial nomination of a qualifying offer of arranged employment.
Creation of Express Entry Profile: Candidates for Canadian permanent residence make an expression of
interest in immigrating to Canada by creating an online profile. They provide information about their skills,
work experience, language ability, education, and other personal information. Candidates who meet the
criteria of one of the aforementioned federal economic immigration programs are placed in a pool of
candidates who are ranked according to a Comprehensive Ranking System.
Invitation to apply: The Government of Canada and Provincial Governments, as well as employers, are able
to select new immigrants from the Express Entry pool. The highest‐ranked candidates (i.e. candidates
considered to have the best chances for economic success in Canada), and those with valid job offers or
provincial nominations, will then be invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence. If a candidate is
selected, he or she receives an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada. He or she will then have
90 days to submit an electronic application for permanent residence. CIC aims to process applications within
six months of the date of submission. Candidates must ensure that they complete all necessary forms and
submit all supporting documents within this timeframe. On completion of the process, successful candidates
and their dependents (spouse and children) will land in Canada as permanent residents.
Candidates in the Express Entry pool who do not receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence in
Canada after 12 months may resubmit their profile and re‐enter the pool.
Job Bank: The Canada Job Bank is an online search engine for open job positions across Canada. It helps
match candidates with Canadian employers and jobs based on their skills, knowledge and experience. Under
Express Entry, candidates need to register with Job Bank if they do not already have a Canadian job offer or a
Provincial/Territorial nomination.
